Prop list

We used a number of props in our film, to add a specific effect to the scene. Here are the main props:

Spray can & Deodrant can:

We will use this in a number of scenes. In total we will use 2 empty cans. For the spraying scenes, we will use a deodrant can, to give the effect that he was actually vandilising a wall. When in fact, there will be no premanent graffiti made. To make sure that the audience were fooled, we will add the scene where the spray cans can be seen. The two actual cans that we will use are when he drops them in subway, giving the sound and visual effect of a change in the story.

Gun (Fake:

For the effect of a real gun, we will use a Playstation 2 light gun. We felt that this gun looked very realistic. This is used on the gun scene, when one of the main charcters gets shot. When we first come to the gun, we had to cut the wire off it, so that it was not clear to be a playstation gun. We will also very careful to warn pedestrians that it is only a dummy prop.

Car:

In the drive by scene, we acquired a motor vehicle to give the effect that the audience could not find out who the shooting was done by. The driver in the car has a full licence and was done with the permission from the Maghull council to use the car park, as long as we were not long and loud. As the car pulls away, the car wheels spin quickly to give the effect of a quick getaway. This will be done with care.

Camera Flash:

The camera flash will only be used once in the drive by scene to give the effect of the firing made by the gun. This will be taken inside the motor vehicle as the gun was used. We feel that this prop will be very effective, as the scene will be taken in the dark which will let is stand out with the post production, adding the sound of the gun.

Flour:

We will use flour for the drug scene. This is made by wrapping the flour up in cellotape to give the effect of the drug cocaine. Although this won't be seen very much in the scene, we still felt that it was very easy to make and should be used.

Cigarette:

A cigarette will be used in one of the scenes, as it will introduce one of the main charcters. In this scene the cahracter will be seen blowing smoke into the camera. We have decided to use this prop as it gives the gang effect of smoking and drugs to the film.

Storyboard - RUN

This is the storyboard that we made. The idea of a storyboard is to guide us on what to do when on the location, exactly what happens, any dialect and what shot that is going to be taken. We split it up in to the 5 A4 sheets.

1)

2)

3)

4)

5)

Please note that the storyboard is not exact to the film trailer, it was only a guide

Background Music

As the main theme around our film is gangster related, we decided as a group to use the genre of rap in our trailer. Taking out the lyrics to songs, allowed us to anaylse the rhythm and beat of the music, to see if it fit into our trailer.

We had a few ideas of music choices, but decided on a track by Mobb Deep. This song is called, Surivival of the fittest and the radio edit can be seen below:

The intro to this songs, fits in perfect in the editing drafts of our trailer as it warms the audience up to the main part of the trailer and the film. Overall, we were all very happy with the song choice

Questionnaire Analysis

This is my results from my questionnaire. Looking at 9 applicants, i can gain a view on what i should apply to my film.

I can gather that most of my candidates feel the trailer is the most encouraging aspect of going to see a film. In our project we must make sure that if this is the most appealing, to make sure that it sells the film. Using quick cuts and edits of action will create suspense for the audience.

I also gathered that the comedy action genre is the most prefered. However, we are going to create a genre of Action/ Drama as this is what we feel to be the most comfortable genre, allowing us to diverse in ideas.

Some candidates do buy film magazines. Knowing this now, i have to make sure that front cover of the magazine that i am going to create must be of very high quality. I will research what film magazine front covers have been made, and apply this to my own creation. I will look at the tecniques used, such as the puffs and pugs that apply to the house style of the music magazine.

Our Film Synopsis

RUN: There Is Never Enough Time

Genre: Action, Drama

Vincent 'vinnie' Fitzpatrick aka Taze is a graffiti artist in Liverpool, he is a part of a gang of fellow graffiti artists called 'N3T', they become dominant (graffiti kings) in the underground graffiti world within Liverpool. When the intentions of the gang turn away from the art and towards money, drugs and violent crime, Vincent decides that he doesn't want to be part of the gang anymore (the determining factor for him wanting to run away is during an incident with a rival gang which leaves him seriously injured and his brother dead), however his fellow gang members aren't as enthusiastic for the idea and go after him to show him leaving the gang isn't as easy as simply running away. He remains in the graffiti culture alone and forever running.

We believe that this is a perfect synopsis for an Action Drama film. It has a consistancy of Action: the graffiti, the crime etc and Drama: The death of Vincents brother and the fall of realtionships between the gang/ crew.

History of Trailers

The first was broadcasted on a U.S theatre screen in November 1913 for the musical 'The Pleasure Seekers'. The most recognised trailers were made in the 1950's. They were most known for big font and limited shots. The trailers are completed before the post production of a film, to show glimpses of what it is about, trying to sell by using suspense.

The 1960's seen the Psycho trailer. This is a black and white trailer, using quick cuts to show the panic used in most horror trailers. Alfred Hitchcock is a voice over for the trailer, explaining the mystery of the film entails. There is also text on the trailer, still used today, showing who the director is. In this case the director is very well known for his popular films.

The 1970's saw the Star Wars trailer which was revolutionary at the time, using new technology. The use of computer animated images allowed the audience to think that they were seeing life in space.

After the 1960's, there was no big text as the image has dried. Quick cutting is used as a ontage vs length, to show a difeent perspective for the railer. In the 170's and 80's, it drawn the target audience in alot more with more films releasing trailers to advertise it.

More modern trailers, last for 2:30 minutes and try t be unique. Now that there are so many films being introduced, the trailer is the best way of advertising, allowing the audience to make a judgmennt on whether to see or not. This now allows experts to find alternative ways to shoot trailers, mixing up the story and changing the order.

Another form of trailers is a teaser trailer. This is usually around 1 minute long.

A teaser trailer for Harry Potter is shown above. This gives subtle glimpses of what has been filmed and an interview with the director about how the production is progressing. There are also behind the scene shots of what happens in the film. At the end is shows what date it will be out, part 1 and part 2. We will not be having a teaser for our trailer, as we will be making a 2 minute trailer.
